If you need regular medication your doctor will set up a repeat prescription for you. You will then be able to get a new prescription from the surgery without having to see the doctor each time.
You will, however, need to see the doctor intermittently for a review in order to check that you are still receiving the best treatment for your illness. The review date on the right hand side of your prescription tells you when you should arrange an appointment for this review. If you are unsure about this please talk to a receptionist.
Your new prescription will be ready two working days after you make your request. You may request your new prescription in the following ways:
- The easiest way is through the online access - you will need to ask at reception for a password the first time you do this - we can also try and help you by showing/telling you how the system works.
- You can call into the surgery and complete a prescription request form which you can put into the prescription box in the main entrance or by passing this to a receptionist.
- You can post your prescription requests via mail to the surgery.
- You can leave a message on our automated telephone answer machine by ringing the surgery. (Please note that we no longer accept routine prescription requests via telephone to our receptionists - this is in response to a number of requests from patients so that we can free up the phone lines for appointments)
You may collect your prescription from the surgery or, if you enclose a stamped addressed envelope with your prescription request, we will post your prescription to you. This may take up to seven days to arrive.
You may find it easier to have us send your new prescription directly to a chemist who will then dispense your medication ready for you to collect. In some cases you can arrange for them to deliver it to your home. Dealing with prescriptions this way is very easy to organise. Go and talk to your chosen chemist and then tell us which chemist you want to deal with your prescriptions. Your medication should be ready for collection or delivery 3 days after you made your request to us.
YOU MUST ALLOW 48 HOURS FOR US TO PREPARE YOUR PRESCRIPTION OR 3 DAYS IF YOU WOULD LIKE US TO SEND IT DIRECT TO A CHEMIST
